This post will be a bit different than the other ones that I usually do.
This will be about the tech stuff that I use to keep in touch with the BDSM community, especially when I am on the move. There are of course also stuff in there that is a part of the expression of who I am and what I do.
The most central piece of gadget I have today when being on the move is my Iphone and I would with honesty claim that I wouldn’t be able to manage things without it. I use it as a porthole into different BDSM communities on the web.
My6sense is an RSS feed reader and aggregator which I use for subscriptions of different BDSM websites and blogs. The beauty of My6sense is that it will start to recommend posts after a while outside you selected sites, recommendations that are based on subjects that you prefer to read about.
Social networking is one important part of my BDSM activities and I use Twitter frequently for different reasons. Tweetie 2 is my favorite Twitter client for my iphone at the moment. There are a couple of other nice alternatives as well; TweetDeck, Twittelator are a few of them
I’m also active in the BDSM community inside Second Life as a platform for information about RL BDSM and all the expressions around it. I can access Second Life through Touch Life so I can at least chat and keep in touch with my friends. It isn’t a fully fledged graphical client, but it’s good enough for communication.
Whip is, to me, a funny application. It allows you to use the Iphone as a whip and give your friends a virtual punishment. It makes a whipping sound when you flick your Iphone in the air. Some people go “Duh, that’s stupid” and some people laugh at it. It makes me laugh, but then again – I’m a nerd.
Besides these useful applications there are a few others that have helped me out in my lifestyle. Google maps have been quite useful when trying to find my way to BDSM shops in London or Kinky parties in Gothenburg. I use Shoutcast on my phone to tune in to BDSM related radio shows or Itunes to listen to a variety of kinky podcasts.
There are a lot of things you can do today when you are on the move, but being able to access the BDSM community is the most useful thing to me.
