When it comes to DIY BDSM it’s always a question of where to get materials for your project or as an alternative to expensive BDSM equipment usually bought from dedicated BDSM shops.
So I will provide you with a list of alternative places that offer the opportunity for you to get hold of things that could be used in your BDSM related activities.
Let your imagination run wild and feel free to add stories about your best DIY buy or how it is used in your play as comments.
- Music Stores – Metal banjo picks (excellent and inexpensive “claws”), tambourine brushes, drumsticks, sound effect toys
Drumsticks can be used as spanking tools or why not gently touch a swollen clit with them? Sound effect toys can be used mind play when the submissuve is blindfolded.
- Beauty Supplies – Rubber bands, clips and clamps, hairbrushes
A good old fashioned spanking with a hairbrush is always an enjoyable activity while the clips and clamps can be used on various parts of the body. Be careful when it comes to cutting of circulation with clamps and rubber bands.
- Theatrical/Magic – Blacklights and strobe lights, mindfuck props, costuming, fake blood, stage knives, rope tricks, itching powder
This type of stores is something I never thought about. It’s a really good place if you are into mindplay or hypnoplay – Nothing messes more with a submissive’s head than fake tools or tying up the submissive and then administer some itching powder on the nose.
- Kitchen/Home – Bathroom accessories (loofah sponges, mitts), spatulas, cutting board paddles, cheese graters, pickle pinchers, wooden spoons, rice paddles, plastic window blind closing rods (good canes)
Lots of stuff here for pain or sensation play, just select your favorite dish brush and brush away on your submissive – Don’t forget the blindfold as thís usually hightens the sensation.
- Pet Stores – Collars, leashes, bells, dog food bowls, cages, remote electrical shock collars. Veterinary supply sells horse and dog bit gags, forceps, sterile needles, some restraints
A lot of things can be found here that are found in a BDSM store – But with a cheaper pricetag. Collars for dogs are a nice treat for any submissive that likes puppy play. Nice chain leashes can be used to drag your submissive around at home or at the next play party.
- Tack Shops – Riding crops, harnesses and bridles, horse hobbles
This is heaven for people into Pony Play and it is usually less expansive than a dedicated pony play store. Some of the things here are of course made for real horses and have exposed metal parts that can be harmful to human teeth. Be sure to cover these in a proper way.
Enjoy investigating the possibilities of finding things that can be used for BDSM in ordinary shops. I have to promote Ikea as I live in Sweden – They have kinky spatulas and chairs that easily can be perverted into spanking benches.
